San Francisco is sometimes accessed by the various protagonists of the Super Mario franchise. It is a city in California within the United States of America.

Saturday Supercade

The Golden Gate Bridge in Saturday Supercade

San Francisco appears in the Saturday Supercade episode "The Ventriloquist Caper," where Donkey Kong Jr. and Bones Bailey travel to the Golden Bridge Theatre after reading a newspaper detailing an annual children's show at the theater, with one of the performers being the Wrestling Gorilla, whom they believe is actually Donkey Kong.

Mario is Missing!

Luigi in San Francisco in the DOS version of Mario is Missing!

San Francisco appears in the PC, SNES, and NES versions of Mario is Missing!. In the game, it is one of the first five cities Luigi has to rescue from invading Koopa Troopas except the NES version, where it is instead in the second pair of levels alongside Sydney, Australia. The enemies have stolen a fog horn from the Golden Gate Bridge, the top of the Transamerica Pyramid, and a window from Coit Tower; in the PC version, instead of Coit Tower, they have also stolen a striped prison shirt from Alcatraz and the bell from a Cable Car. To expel the Koopas, Luigi has to find the missing objects and return these to their respective landmarks.

In the PC version, Luigi is contacted by Mayor Froobnitz when he first arrives in the city and after he returns all the artifacts.

Later in the game, the city is mentioned by a tourist in Rio de Janeiro. When Luigi shows him a cable car that the Troopas stole from Sugar Loaf Mountain, he says that "San Francisco doesn't seem quite so far, when I look at that cable car."

Turtles Take Prominent Property

A lime-green turtle with a giant shell, last seen traveling by turbo skateboard, is the prime suspect in the theft of the fog horn from the Golden Gate Bridge. Ship traffic has grounded to a halt in the fog. Meanwhile, bridge officials have offered a $2240 reward for safe return of the horn, plus a $3200 bonus if it's returned first.
